Dance

“The Dance Program here at East Coast Varsity is an exceptionally grounded, open and positive place for young dancers to push past their limits. We work together to reach their highest potential and have a support system that will allow dancers to take risks and step outside their comfort zones. ECV is a place to grow, a place to create and a place to find your way as an artist.” – Ms.Brittney McCarthy

The Dance Program at ECV provides dancers with the tools and resources required to pursue dance as a professional artist. All students attending the ECV Dance Program will be given a high quality education that compliments the dedication of each individual’s training schedule. The students at ECV are assessed daily based on readiness, attendance, attentiveness, skill, and their desire to learn. We believe here at ECV that all of these qualities are highly important to building character in all students as both individuals and as artistic athletes.

The curriculum focuses daily on building a strong technical foundation while empowering students to find their artistic voice through their dancing. Dancers will receive instruction and guidance from experienced and accredited instructors. Training will focus in Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Contemporary, Improvisation, Composition and Acrobatics to ensure versatility. At ECV, we believe in giving dancers the opportunity to grow by learning from several different instructors throughout the year as well as providing dancers with guest instructors from across North America.

ECV’s Dance Program is designed to provide students with five classes of dance each week focusing in various styles each day. Dancers are assessed and receive feedback to understand their progress and to continue to strive to accomplish their goals. ECV’s Dance students also partake in an annual showcase where their progress from the school year can be presented through professional choreography and own-choreographic works.

ECV dancers have accomplished many achievements  since studying in ECV’s Dance Program including being accepted into Summer Intensive Programs across North America including the National Ballet of Canada. Dancers have also participated in several elite Dance Festivals across Canada and The United States.

Blair Keiver & Drew, Grade 5

We couldn’t be happier with the on ice product.  Erin King brings a vast bank of knowledge and experience to the ice, and with small group sizes, he focuses on each player’s skill development in all facets of the game. He pours his heart and soul into the program and Drew is very fortunate to have his mentorship both on and off the ice. I highly recommend ECV both academically and athletically to all student athletes, it has exceeded all of our expectations.

Kendra MacIsaac-Hobson – Hannah, Grade 9 & Andrea, Grade 10

ECV has given our children  opportunities like volunteering with SPCA,  surfing, entertaining the elderly and Earth Day cleanup. All connecting them with the community. With our hectic schedules its great to know they get these experiences. Realizing not every student learns the same way or at the same pace the teachers at ECV take the time to recognize individuality and offer before and after school extra help.

Anne-Marie Smith & Max, Grade 6

When you ask Max what’s his favourite sport, he has to think about it because his favourite sport often depends on the season, and what he’s playing at that particular time.  The multi sport approach at ECV works well for Max because it allows him to continuously develop skills in two sports he loves and plays competitively – hockey and baseball.  As well this approach engages him in a variety of other sport and physical endurance activities which complement the other sports he plays including basketball, snowboarding, flag football, paddling, and golf. ECV's small class sizes and individual/small groups attention allows kids to realize their academic potential. The daily routine which balances academic time and physical activity, creates the right conditions for growth and learning.

Steve Tomlin & Makayla, Grade 8

East Coast Varsity was an instant fit for our daughter from the first ‘trial’ day we attended.  The involvement of the faculty goes beyond teacher student responsibilities as they take a personal interest in her goals while managing her high expectations to be a successful student. This combination has allowed our daughter to flourish as a dancer, giving her flexibility to attend outside dance commitments while maintaining a higher level of education. As dance parents, having our daughter attend ECV has been the best choice we could have made.
